3. Our office undertakes to process the procedure for obtaining the Apostille on documents issued in Heraklion, Crete, which are to be used in one of the countries that have signed the Hague Convention of 5-10-1961.

5. Below are some general information about the authorities responsible for granting the Apostille, as well as the procedure followed on a case-by-case basis.

    • 6. The Hague Convention Seal of 057. October 1961 (APOSTILLE) is the certification that abolishes the requirement for the validation of foreign public documents. Administrative documents also include non-political documents, such as: notarial, judicial, military, ecclesiastical, and police documents. 8. For the issuance of the Hague Seal, the.
    • 9. existence of the sample 10. signature or monogram 11. of the signatory of the public document 12. by the competent authority for granting the Apostille (ref. 9190/31-3-2003, and ref. 36396/10-6-2008 documents from the Ministry of Interior). The signature must be the 13. original 14. and 15. not pre-printed or stamped 16. . Public documents must in every case be the. 17. originals or exact copies – exact photocopies from the 18. issuing authority only, with all the conditions that apply under the provisions of the laws ( 19. ref.No. Δ6Δ 1138066 ΕΞ /05-10-2012 document of the Ministry of Interior). Exact photocopies received via facsimile are not accepted.
    • The Apostille certifies the signature, the capacity of the signer, and possibly the seal on the document. It does not certify the content of the document for which it was issued.
    • The Certification precedes the Translation!
    • Documents issued abroad CANNOT receive Apostille in Greece.
    • Our Country, with Law 4231/28-01-2014 (Government Gazette 19 A΄), ratified the Convention of the International Committee on Personal Status of September 15, 1977 regarding exemption from the certification of certain acts and documents. Specifically, those related to personal status, legal capacity, family status, nationality, residence or stay of a person regardless of the purpose for which they are intended, as well as those issued to be used in view of the celebration of marriage or the issuance of a civil status act. These documents must bear the date, signature, and seal of the competent authority of the state that issued them. The other countries that have ratified the Convention are: Austria, Spain, France, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Portugal, Turkey, Poland.
    • According to Regulation (EU) 2016/1191, in the context of promoting the free movement of citizens and businesses through the simplification of requirements for the submission of certain public documents within the EU, multilingual standard forms are established in all official languages of the EU institutions, relating to birth, death, marriage, clean criminal record, family status, registered cohabitation which will be used as translation aids attached to public documents and which are not certified with Apostille.
    • Between Greece and Cyprus the Agreement of 05-3-1984 (Law 1548/85 Government Gazette A’), which in several cases of judicial and public documents does not require certification obligation (document no. 65111/16-11-2009 of the Ministry of Interior, Decentralization and e-Governance). Clarifying confirmation is suggested for the case-by-case submission of documents from the host country.
    • In the context of the ratification of the Convention for the issuance of certificates of capacity for marriage with N.4230/2014 (G.G. 18 A’ 28-01-2014), each contracting state issues the standard multilingual certificate which bears the date, signature, and stamp from the issuing authority and is valid for six months from the date of its issuance. The states that have ratified the Convention, besides Greece, are:
      Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Switzerland, Spain, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Portugal, Turkey. Obviously, in this case, the Apostille notation is not required.

      • Copies of board meeting minutes. of companies based in Attica can be issued by the President of the Company or anyone else authorized by the Company’s Articles of Association. The procedure for proving representation is followed as in the case of private documents. A copy of the Company’s Articles of Association or G.G. representation or a notification certificate from the G.E.M.I. is required, while a certificate of non-dissolution of the company may also be requested.
    • In ecclesiastical documents, the Apostille of the Hague Convention is granted provided they have been certified by the relevant Metropolis and not only by the parish churches. For the other denominations or religions recognized by the Ministry of Education and Religious Affairs, the procedure followed for N.P.D.D. applies (according to document No. 107/28-3-2012 from the Ministry of Education, Research, and Religious Affairs).  Documents originating from the Patriarchates e.g. of Constantinople, Alexandria, etc. cannot be apostilled by the Decentralized Administration.
    • Documents issued by authorities that fall under the Directorates and Sub-Directorates of Security of the Hellenic Police (Passports, Identity Cards, certificates, etc.) must bear validation from the Chief of the relevant police department (as well as the validation of the genuine signature on a private document) and then the validation of his signature by a Police Director or Police Deputy Director or Colonel of the corresponding Police Directorate or Sub-directorate in order to grant the Apostille of the Hague Convention (No. Φ.090/1091/ΑΣ194/18-8-1979, No. Φ.094/1/ΑΣ117/31-3-1988 and No. ΔΙΣΚΠΟ/Φ.15/15409/27-7-2006 documents from the Ministry of Interior).
    • Documents of primary or secondary education school units e.g. certificates of dismissal, progress reports, certificates (either originals or copies from the Director of the relevant school) must be validated by the Head or his deputy of the Primary or Secondary Education office that supervises the unit (genuine signature of the Director) or accurate photocopies must be made from the Offices and then be stamped with the Hague Seal. The validation of these documents is carried out provided they bear validation from the competent Education Coordinator.
    • The documents of the Tax Offices. must be original or accurate copies from authorized employees (No. Δ6Δ 1166128 ΕΞ 03-12-2012 from the Ministry of Finance). It is not possible to validate documents that have been submitted electronically or originate from the Internet.
